It’s as much about the journey as the destination

Here we are – August holiday season. A time to refresh, spend quality time with loved ones and take a few well-earned resting moments. And reflect.

For my part, I was reflecting recently on my own career journey – while doing an airport run to London Stansted.

This was a full circle moment for me – it’s about 23 years since I worked at Stansted’s Enterprise House in a fabulous business with wonderful colleagues – where I literally learned the importance of the journey (as well as the destination).

And this focus on the journey – making each step (milestone) the best that it can be – very much guides how we work with our clients at Milestones MK. We wholeheartedly engage, we plan, we perform and we deliver the milestones for our clients.

And more importantly we do it with a smile on our faces, taking considerable satisfaction from our contribution to our client’s journey. Setting them up for success in their next phase: helping them deliver a better business, taking well-managed risks, innovating and delivering a better experience for all their customers, staff and investors. To realise their growth goals.

And in doing so, ourselves enjoying the next leg of Milestones MK ’s journey.

In our airline in the early noughties, our superb leaders had created a vibrant engaged culture – leading to the highest levels of performance. Each of us were encouraged to make a difference every day – and for most it came naturally.

Encapsulated by the Go-MAD (Go-Make A Difference) awards I still fondly remember – rightly recognising high levels of achievement, motivation and positivity.’

For me then it’s as much about the journey as the destination – the decisions we take along the way, the goals we set, the culture we create and the way we make our colleagues feel. Some of the things I learned from my executive journey, which I focus on when making a difference for our clients.
